Start with the vehicle identity: year, make, model, engine and drivetrain. That sets whether the car has live parts demand in the Triad recycling market or is priced primarily on weight. A common truck or a high-volume sedan with a healthy drivetrain will always price differently from a low-demand import with a small engine, regardless of how the body looks.

Second, completeness. The catalytic converter, engine, transmission, wheels, battery and undamaged panels each carry value. A car that has already been picked over — converter cut, wheels swapped for spares, doors sold — is worth less than the same car untouched, and that has nothing to do with the accident.

Third, recoverability of the undamaged half. On a rear-hit vehicle, the front clip, engine bay components and front doors are all sellable. On a front-hit vehicle, the rear body panels, glass and interior remain. We look at which end survived, because that is the part that is resold.

Fourth, access cost. Towing is included in the number we quote, but a vehicle that has to be skated out of a tight body-shop bay or released from a lot with limited hours takes more driver time than one sitting in an open driveway in Kernersville. That is priced into the job before you hear the offer, not deducted afterwards.

We will not quote a number we cannot honour at the curb. If the description you give matches the vehicle when the driver arrives, the offer stands as quoted.

Every damaged-vehicle pickup is a flatbed job. Tell us before dispatch whether the vehicle rolls, whether the steering is locked, whether it sits on a slope, and how much clearance the truck has to work with. A damaged car in a downtown Winston-Salem alley, an apartment deck in Greensboro, or a fenced body-shop yard in High Point each need a different approach.

For apartment complexes and HOA properties, someone with authority — property manager, courtesy officer or resident on the lease — needs to confirm the pickup and open any gate. Several Triad complexes tow unauthorised trucks, so this is not a formality.

If the vehicle is in a repair facility or storage lot, we need the facility's name, the release contact and their hours. Facilities in Burlington, Graham and Lexington often run shorter release windows than the shops in Greensboro, which is why we confirm the schedule with them rather than with a general promise to you.

Leave the vehicle where it is. Do not pay a second tow to relocate a damaged car to your house first — that cost is not recoverable in the offer, and we can usually collect it from where it already sits.

The clean version: a North Carolina title with your name printed on the front, no active lien, and a matching photo ID. You sign the assignment section in front of the driver at pickup. Nothing needs to be notarised in advance.

If the title was lost, NCDMV form MVR-4 issues a duplicate. Depending on the vehicle and the situation, we can sometimes buy while that is in process — send a photo of whatever documentation you do have and we will tell you plainly whether it is workable.

If a lien is printed on the title, the lender's written release has to exist before the vehicle moves, even when the loan was paid years ago. This is the single most common reason a scheduled pickup gets pushed, and it is entirely avoidable by checking the front of the title today.

If a claim was filed but you kept the vehicle, make sure the insurer has closed or documented its position before the sale, and keep the plate. In North Carolina the plate belongs to you, not the car — pull it before the truck leaves and handle the turn-in or transfer at NCDMV.
