Selling A Car That's Missing Parts

The simple version: the offer drops by approximately the value the missing part would have added to the whole-car price. Missing catalytic converter? Subtract $80–$250. Missing wheels? Subtract $50–$200 depending on whether they were OE alloys or steelies. Missing engine but transmission still in? Subtract the engine's parts value, which can be $300–$800 on common Honda/Toyota/Ford models.

What doesn't change: the scrap steel value of the shell. Even a heavily stripped car still has 2,000+ pounds of recyclable steel, which is the floor price under any junk car offer in the Charlotte metro.

Catalytic converter theft is the most common — a Charlotte epidemic over the last few years, especially on Toyota Priuses, Honda Elements, and Ford F-150s. If the cat was cut off, the offer drops by the cat's value but the sale still goes through.

Long-running projects often end up missing the engine (sold separately, swapped to another car, or just removed for storage) and sometimes the transmission. We buy these regularly — the body shell, suspension, interior, electronics, and remaining mechanical parts still represent meaningful value.

Vandalized cars with smashed windows, slashed seats, stolen radios — none of that disqualifies the sale, though it affects pricing on the interior parts that would otherwise be sellable.

Walk through what's missing: engine, transmission, catalytic converter, wheels, doors, hood, hatch, bumpers, interior pieces, fuel tank, anything else. Photos by text help a lot when the car is heavily stripped — a quick walk-around video is even better.

Also tell us how the car will need to be loaded. A car with no wheels still loads via skates and winch. A car with no doors and no glass loads the same as any other. A car with no engine and no transmission is much lighter and easier to load. The driver brings appropriate equipment based on what you describe.

Modern vehicles have a lot of expensive small parts that don't get stripped: airbag modules (when present and undeployed), ABS modules, body control modules, ECUs, infotainment systems, headlights and taillights, climate control assemblies, and increasingly valuable safety-system sensors and cameras. These all sell into the used parts market.

A car missing the engine and wheels can still price in the $300–$600 range purely from the value of its remaining electronics, body parts, and scrap weight. Don't assume a heavily stripped car is worthless — call for a real quote.
